Special Steel Company Outline

Nisshin Steel has been producing flat-rolled special steel products for more than fifty years and now holds approximately 50% of the market share in Japan.
There are several reasons behind our predominant presence.
  Thinner, Lighter, and Stronger

strip cuttersWe have been fully committed to responding to such diverse customer.needs as reducing costs, upgrading their own products, and trying out new fabricating techniques and processes for efficiency. In further-ance of our long-time relationships with our customers, we continue to improve our technologies and quality and develop new, multifunc-tional steel.

The Quality and Volume Leader in Cold-Rolled Special Steel Strip

Nisshin Steel is an integrated steel manufacturer capable of implementing thorough quality control from the blast furnace to finishing.

Steelmaking: 90-ton LD converter and continuous caster
The relatively small capacity of this converter is an advantage for small lots of special steel, and the continuous caster, a completely vertical type, has a great advantage in floating nonmetallic inclusions.

Hot rolling: Six-high, seven-stand hot-strip mill
The sophisticated automatic gauge control (AGC) system ensures close exactitude of thickness, and the super-high- pressure hydraulic descaler (300kg/sq.cm) provides an excellent surface quality for steel strip. The automatic shape control (ASC) system also provides desired sheet crowns for subsequent manufacturing processes (cold rolling or trade).

Cold Rolling: Sendzimir mills, four-stand tandem mills
Sendzimir mills can produce high-alloy and high-carbon steel and process a wide range of thicknesses (from 0.3mm to 0.6mm). Each mill is equipped with the sophisticated AGC system and ASC system. Furthermore, we are developing thinner gauge strip for flapper valves, razor blades, and other uses through another piece of equipment, a six-high reversing mill, which also rolls materials for TV shadow masks.

Annealing: tight-coil bell annealer (TCA); high-convection bell annealer (HCA); open-coil bell annealer (OCA)
The TCA is a conventional bell an-nealer whereas the HCA is dedicated to special steel, in which coils are an-nealed in a pure hydrogen atmosphere to keep the coil quality uniform from end to end, avoid oxidation film, and reduce annealing time.
The OCA works to decarburize steel for use in such products as malleable cutting blades.

Electropating: Populer for Super Corrosion Resistance and Attractive Finishing

seat belt bucklesWe produce approximately 150 types of steel, according to JIS, SAE, and own mill standards with improved temperability and malleability as requested by customers.

JIS: SC, SMn, SCr, SNC, SCM, SNCM, SK, SKS, SUP
SAE: 10 series, 15 series, 41 series, 51 series, 61 series, 86 series Our products are supplied in:
Hot-rolled steel sheet; hot-rolled, pickled, or pickled and annealed
Cold-rolled steel sheet and strip; tempered or annealed

Special Steel Products: Pursuing Functionality in Daily Life

Our main market for special steel is automotive parts, accounting for 70%, followed by industrial machine components and cutting tools. Major applications include:
Clutch plates for automatic trans-missions: temper-rolled S35C
Seat belt buckles: hot and cold S55C, N55D (Nisshin standard)
Sheet gear: hot and cold S45C, SCM415, SNCM220
These automotive parts are made with the fine blanking method and cold-rolled strip is used. But, due to improvements in the fine blanking technol-ogy and steel quality, hot-rolled steel sheet is increasingly being used and, in the near future, will completely replace cold-rolled strip.
