Our domestic manufacturing facilities
In order to get along with the local public as members of the company, Nisshin Steel actively works in greenery promotion and nearby cleanup activities at our seven manufacturing works nationwide, concluding and complying with environmental protection agreements with local governments. We are also engaged in local activities, such as enhancing communication through such means as factory tours.
Conclusion of and compliance with environmental protection agreements
At each manufacturing works, an environmental protection agreement (pollution prevention agreement) is concluded with local governments. Such an agreement covers the entire range of environmental factors, including air, water quality, waste products, noise, vibration, and odors, and sets stricter-than-legally-required standards that take each region's characteristics into consideration. By abiding by environmental law and these agreements, we promote business activities that take the environment into consideration.
Participation in local environmental activities
At each manufacturing works, we contribute to the beautification of the local environment through our own cleanup activities around our works and through activities sponsored by local governments, including Environment Month activities, one-day cleanup campaigns by citizens, and cleanup operations of the industrial complex.
And through participation in local environmental events and exchange events, we let the public know of our business activities and our efforts to protect the environment, and deepen our exchange with the local community.

Local volunteer cleanups
In March 2008, some 102 people from the Kure Works, labor unions, and affiliated and cooperating companies joined in an effort to pick up trash and clear away overgrowth along the roads around the factory. This cleanup activity, which has been going on since 2005, has become a regular event, making the local environment more attractive year by year and becoming a way to get to know the local residents.

Exhibiting at the Kure EcoFest
This year too, the Kure Works had an exhibit at the "Kure EcoFest," which is held every year by the city of Kure to encourage citizens to recycle and adopt an ecological lifestyle. At the exhibit, we discussed iron recycling and presented high-function products that are gentle on the global environment, and through exchanges with local residents we deepened public understanding of our activities as a company living in harmony with the local community.

Participation in "town, forest, and water get-together"
In 2007, thirty-one of us from the Shunan Works participated as volunteers in a "town, forest, and water get-together" sponsored by Yamaguchi Prefecture to convey to the public the importance of forests and forest preservation for water resources; by pruning branches and other activities, we helped protect the forest, which is an important source of water in the region.

Promotion of greenery activities
Since 1973 Nisshin Steel has steadily expanded the effort for greenery to all our manufacturing works, establishing "green starting point" memorials for the purpose of fostering harmony with the natural environment of the vicinity.
Community forest
At the Kure Works, we have been working since 1989 to create a forested area within our grounds. Today it has grown into what we call a "community forest" of 30,000 trees of 60 species, a place where pheasants, brown-eared bulbuls, and other wild birds congregate. This forest absorbs CO2 and serves to protect the local environment.

Biotope
At the Sakai Works, in an effort to "create high-quality greenery" to contribute to the local environment sought by the city of Sakai, we have built within our grounds what is known as a "biotope" (this term comes from a German word and means a small area with a uniform environment occupied by a community of organisms). At the water's edge we have released eight species of fish, and we watch over them and their green surroundings.
